This image is showing a boy bowing to another boy and he does not know what it means. This is a single story that some people that I talk to think that just because I am asian, I bow like that to people. It made me feel a little offended. I just told him that Japanese people do not bow like that. The single story was that all Asians bow. I wished they knew that Japanese people do not bow like that. I think that it is important that we all have multiple perspectives of other cultures because then we have a bigger understanding of them, and will stereotype them less. They are distributed by the internet and the people that are in that culture.
I chose a photo by Philippe Lopez on April 22, 2015. It is a photo that shows a fight between pro-Beijing demonstrators and democracy activist. I chose this photo because I thought that it would be interesting to put myself into a photo that was more modern because it would give me more chance to change it. I changed this photo by putting a fist punching back at the man in the middle that is wearing the yellow vest. I also put myself taking a picture of the incident behind the man. I think that my changes gave the photo a more violent feel. The original only had the one man punching, but because I put another fist in there, the conflict seems more two-sided and worse. By putting myself in their, I thought that it gave the sense that these kinds of conflicts could be seen globally, not only by the people who where there, but by common civilians around the world.
I see a man that looks like he is on fire. He looks like a protester and looks like he is trying to throw something. This is a photo of a Palestinian protestor setting himself on fire trying to throw a Molotov cocktail at Israeli forces in the west bank of Hebron. The news caption is " A Palestinian protester set himself on fire accidentally as he threw a Molotov cocktail at Israeli security forces in the West Bank city of Hebron. Violence has escalated over a disputed holy site." This photo makes me feel sad that people are fighting over a religious sight, when there is still a lot of violence in that area already.
1. He wanted to do it because photography gave people a view of war that was not like previous ways. In previous ways of drawing and description, the real horror of it did not get across. However, photography showed the "real horror and reality of war."
2. Gardner posed and rearranged dead corpses in order to make a scarier effect. He even used prop guns, blankets, canteens and other items to make it more visually appealing. He did it so "viewers could more easily sympathize with the tragic loss of life." He also put red ink on the black and white photos to give it a scarier effect. 3.In these days, you see photographic images everywhere. On the bus, on your phone, on buildings, posters, and a lot more things. Back then, you had to go to a gallery, order them via mail, or buy books with the photos in them, but these days you can just post in on the internet. Now we have the internet and access pretty much anywhere, but back then you needed to make it in a room, and take it everywhere so it was a lot harder. 4.Nowdays, people post photos, articles, and go on marches. There are many different ways to express your opinion now. There are 5 people in this picture. There are 3 adult men, a women, and a small girl. 2 of the men are police officers and they appear to be arresting the man. The women and the girl look worried and look like they are trying to defend the man. The man being arrested is screaming. This picture is of a Syrian refugee being arrested by Hungarian police men for crossing the border. This photo makes me feel sad for the refugee family because all they wanted to do is get away from the chaos in Syria.
